Topsoil, seed, and sod — and keeping silt out of the river

The dirt we shape during cut-and-fill is subsoil and saprolite — structurally fine to build on, but it won’t grow a lawn. So the job isn’t done at finish grade. We spread imported topsoil over the worked surface (priced by the cubic yard, in the cost table) and then restore it the way you want: seed and straw for the budget-friendly route, or sod for an instant, erosion-resistant lawn.
