Is commercial grading different from residential grading, or just the same work at a bigger scale?
It’s the same dirt and largely the same machines — what changes is tolerance, paperwork, and how the bill is built. What are engineered fill, compaction testing, and pad certification?
Engineered fill is fill placed deliberately — unsuitable material stripped off, each lift keyed into firm ground and compacted to the density the geotechnical report calls for, instead of dirt pushed into a hole. Compaction testing is the field verification: the soils technician tests lifts as they go in, and the results are recorded.
