The escarpment ridges: slope and shallow saprolite
Climb the shoulders toward Laurel Park, Jump Off Rock, and the Blue Ridge escarpment — or out to the apple-country ridges around Edneyville and Dana on the east side of the county — and the picture flips. The Ashe, Edneyville, and Evard ridge soils run a typical 28.1–40.2% and as steep as 95%.
