The Little River bottomland: an invert above the wet line
Where the ground runs lowest — the Little River and Highland Lake drainages — the soil grades into Dillard, only moderately well drained at a near-flat 3.7% with a seasonal high water table. The southern edge climbs the Saluda grade
Head south toward Saluda, the Saluda escarpment, and Glassy Mountain and Flat Rock’s ground rises. The ground on this Saluda-grade side turns to Evard and Edneyville — upland Typic Hapludults and Typic Dystrudepts slopes — with Porters taking the higher shoulders; the survey reads them at 28.1%, 30.7%, and 33.9% typical, and far steeper in spots.
