Maggie Valley is a ribbon town: Jonathan Creek and US 19 share a narrow floor, and the mountainsides start almost immediately — Wayah at 27.8%, Burton at 29.7%, the bouldery Cullasaja at 32.7%, Plott at 36.5% on the climb toward Soco Gap and the Cataloochee Divide. The Saunook cove ground and the Hayesville/Braddock creek terraces (12.2–17.6%) hold the motels and the older flat yards; nearly everything newer — the cabins, the rental A-frames, their drives and their parking — sits on benches carved into the walls above.
