Here is the honest version of Swannanoa erosion control: the deciding question isn’t what product you need, it’s where on the valley your soil is leaving from. Swannanoa spreads along the Swannanoa River and US-70, and that shape hands us two opposite erosion jobs. Up the walls climbing toward the Blue Ridge Parkway, a cut face on Evard and Cowee ground at 34.8% (with Wayah and Burton higher at 40.2–40.8%) sheds hard and scars. Down on the river terraces, the soil doesn’t wash off a slope — the current takes it, one bank slab at a time. Confuse the two and you armor the wrong thing, which is why our walk starts by reading the valley, not by reaching for stone.
The wall side: cuts that scar toward the Parkway
On a Parkway-side or Craggy-side lot the erosion is a classic bare-cut problem with mountain energy behind it.
